Next I saw a well-known doctor in New York City-I figured it was time to hit up the best of the best, even though he didn't take my insurance so everything was going to be out of pocket. Dr. #5 was an MD but also used natural remedies so I thought I was going to get great balanced care, something I was more comfortable with, than just having prescription medications thrown at me. Although a bit of an oddball (the super smart ones always are a bit different, right?), I was curious to see his approach and excited to be in such experienced hands. He was certainly confident that he had the knowledge to get me healthy again.

Doctor #2 was recommended by a friend who had personal experience with the doctor. I felt like I would be in good hands and that this new doctor would be able to help me get back to healthy. My insurance at the time did not have many options that were close to home for me, so I decided to see him even though I would be paying out of pocket.
Unfortunately, at the time, I had no idea that the hives were only the beginning of my struggles. About 3 months into dealing with the hives, I started to develop some uncomfortable digestive symptoms. I noticed some mucus in my stool, more urgency, and sometimes pain when going to the bathroom. It started out sporadically but soon became daily. Now it's the beginning of 2013 and my life is already flipped upside down between the hives and the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. The stress was real and it was taking a toll on my health.
